TRACK AND FIELD: Brodhead-Juda busts out brooms at home

BRODHEAD - The Cardinals' boys and girls track teams came away with wins over Beloit Turner on Tuesday.

The Cardinals' boys defeated the Trojans 91-55, while the girls' team easily won 127-14.

Brodhead-Juda's Caleb Frost took first in both the 100- and 300-meter hurdles, finishing with times of 15.9 and 44.1 seconds, respectively.

Frost also was on the Cards' first-place 4x200 relay team that included Vinny Mazzarisi, Dylan Connely and Elias Klar.

Klar also took first place in the pole vault with a 12-foot vault .

Other notables include Ryan McCarville, who won the 400 dash and also was on the winning 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams.

The Lady Cards' Laura and Annie Hamel were a double threat on the track Tuesday with both of them winning two events. Laura took first in the high jump and triple jump and Annie took first in the 100 and 300 hurdles.

Brittany Schwartzlow won the 100 dash and also was a member of the winning 4x100 relay team that included Rachel Nolte, Larissa Klemm and Ericka Calhoon; and the winning 4x200 relay team that included Amanda Johnson, Klemm and Cassie Wymer.

Wymer took first in the 200 dash and the long jump, while Nolte tied for first in the pole vault.

Kaitlyn Spooner took first place in both the shot put and the discus throw.

SUGAR RIVER DUAL

BELLEVILLE - The Sugar River boys and girls teams earned wins Tuesday against Waterloo.

On the girls' side, Ashley Beutler was a one-person force to be reckoned with as she took first place in the 800 and 1600 runs and also was part of the winning 4x800 relay team that included Carly Brown, Amanda Crary and Alissa Siegenthaler.

Ashley Nimtz won both the 300 hurdles and was a member of the winning 4x400 relay team that included Megan Miller, Alli Schultz and Ashley Brusveen.

For the boys' team, Ben Marsh earned first-place finishes in the shot put and triple jump.

DARLINGTON INVITATIONAL

DARLINGTON - Individual athletes shined Tuesday at the Darlington Invitational.

Darlington's Marcia Roeper finished first in the 100 dash and also took first, along with Vanessa Schwartz, Katie Martin and Kelsi Blosch, in the 4x200 relay.

Roeper wasn't finished, however, and took the gold in the pole vault and long jump events.

Black Hawk's Savannah Erzen won the 300 hurdles and was a first-place finisher with the 4x100 relay team that included Hailey Meier, Rachel Rygh and Katie Place.

Darlington's Abby Wedig won first place in the 800 run and was part of the 4x400 relay team, along with Kelsi Blosch, Katie Martin and Ciara Wiegel. Wiegel also won the 400 dash. She, along with Olivia Wedig, Hana Miehe and Elena Wiegel, won the 4x800 relay.

Darlington's Jeff Reichling took first place in both the shot put and discus throw.

Alex Erickson combined with Blake Wedig, Kyler Wiegel and Bruce King to win the 4x200 relay, and he and Jordan Heinberg, Isaiah Goebel and Wedig won the 4x400 relay.
