Tournaments provide valuable mat time

MONROE - The Monroe Mat Rats competed at the Verona Youth Duals Saturday, with Verona and Pec/Argyle also participating.

Wrestlers were able to compete in a more team-like atmosphere rather than in a round-robin, bracketed out format. No medals or trophies were given at the youth duals: It was just valuable mat time for these young wrestlers.

The Monroe High School team was wrestling at the same time in the same gym and took second-place in the Verona varsity invitational.

Grant Ula, grades 3-4/65-67 pounds, competed Sunday at the Lancaster Youth Tourney and placed first in his bracket.
