DARLINGTON - The Darlington boys basketball team rode a stingy defense to a 43-41 non-conference win over Shullsburg Tuesday, Dec. 10.
Darlington's Ben Muhlstein scored a team-high 12 points. Junior teammate Cole McDonald added nine points. Darlington (2-1, 1-0 SWAL) hit four 3-pointers and pulled out a tough win one day after a 47-44 loss to Barneveld.
"There is nothing wrong with our defense," Darlington coach Mike Hopkins said. "The last couple of games we haven't shot it well. It's been our offense that has been a mystery."
The Miners took a four-point lead at the half after outscoring the Redbirds 13-5 in the third quarter. The Redbirds answered outscoring the Miners 15-5. The Miners went on an 8-0 run in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 30.
"I wasn't pleased at halftime," Hopkins said. "We were not executing. We just need to put it together for four quarters."
Darlington will play at Iowa-Grant Friday, Dec. 13 and then they host Boscobel Thursday, Dec. 19.
"We are in a position where we should be able to get off to a good start in the conference," Hopkins said.

Gavin Binger scored a team-high 11 points for the Knights, and Logan Zimmerman and Caleb Fredickson chipped in with 7 points and 6 points, respectively.
