MADISON - On March 26 and 27, Monroe Mat Rat wrestlers traveled to the Alliant Energy Center for the 2010 Kids Folkstyle State Tournament.
To compete, wrestlers had to have won first or second place at six different regional locations. Only the top six medal at the state competition.
In the 1995 to 1996 (birth years) division, Ryan Hughes in the 160-pound weight class and Troy Gorr, at 190, wrestled Friday night, winning both of their matches. On Saturday, the tide turned with both taking sixth-place.
In the 1999 to 2000 divison, Hayden Arenson, at 120 pounds and in his first trip to state, wrestled to a fourth-place finish. In the 2001 to 2002 division, Drake Ingold, 75 pounds, and Colby Argall (66) were unsuccessful at placing in the top six.
Terri Holmes competed in the girls tournament in the 1995 to 1997 age group. She finished second.
