MADISON - Prior to the start of the season, Monroe head coach Tony Stamm talked about players on his team having a "never give up attitude." The Cheesemakers put that attitude on display Thursday in a 4-3 come from behind win over the Madison Edgewood Crusaders in Badger South conference soccer.

Monroe trailed 3-1 at halftime, but scored three unanswered goals in the second half to earn the win.

Sophomore Blake Duffy scored the Cheesemakers' lone goal in the first half with an assist from senior Nigel Tourdot at 13:27, which tied the game at. The Crusaders responded with two goals later in the first half.

The second half belonged to the Cheesemakers as Tourdot scored an unassisted goal in the 43rd minute to make the score 3-2. Tourdot would get another goal at 50:00 on an assist from Corey Flannery to tie it at 3-3.

The Cheesemakers and the Crusaders slugged it out for the next 26 minutes before senior Belsazar Castellanos delivered the game-winner in the 77th minute on a free kick.

"They (Edgewood) had a wall set up for him, and he's a left-footed kicker," said Monroe head coach Tony Stamm. "The ball curved around the wall and into the goal. It was a thing of beauty."

Senior goalkeeper Kyle Williams had eight saves for the Cheesemakers.

"The goals they scored on him were all on set plays," said Stamm.

Monroe is now 2-1-1 in the Badger South and 6-3-3 overall. Their next soccer match will be at home Tuesday against Stoughton.
