MINERAL POINT - Nick Smith scattered five hits and struck out seven to lead the Pointers past the Darlington Redbirds 6-3 Tuesday in a SWAL Conference game.

The Redbirds cut a 6-0 deficit in half with three unearned runs in the sixth inning on Colton Hackett's run-scoring base hit and Brandon Hardyman's two-run single. Wade Black pitched five innings for Darlington, giving up four hits, six walks, and a pair of strikeouts.

Darlington (2-8, 1-4 SWAL) will host Cuba City Friday.

New Glarus 5

COLUMBUS - The Cardinals scored in every inning, including eight runs in the fifth inning to turn back New Glarus in a Capitol Conference crossover game Tuesday.

The Knights took a 3-2 lead in the second inning, but the Cardinals scored five unanswered runs to take a 7-3 lead heading into the fifth. New Glarus made it interesting with two runs in the top of the fifth, but the Cardinals erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the inning to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Junior Eric Felt went 2 for 3 with a doble and two RBIs to lead the Glarner Knights.

New Glarus (2-11, 1-8) will travel to Waterloo Thursday.

BELOIT - The Trojans handed the Cardinals (3-5, 2-5 Rock Valley South) their third loss in their last four games on Tuesday.
