BARABOO - With a charged crowd, the Monroe boys basketball team lost its seventh straight game to Baraboo 43-37 Thursday night.

It was the last regular season game for Baraboo coach Tom Steinhorst who is retiring at the end of the season.

"The gym was really rocking," Monroe coach Pat Murphy said. "It was a tournament-type atmosphere. If there was ever a game where the world was against us, it felt like it tonight."

Monroe (8-14, 3-9 Badger South) was outscored 15-8 in the fourth quarter. Baraboo senior Sean McGann scored nine of his game-high 17 points in the final period. The Cheesemakers had a 33-30 lead, but McGann scored on a conventional three-point play to spark the Thunderbirds. Monroe senior Austin Burandt scored a team-high 11 points to lead the Cheesemakers.

"The team that gets more offensive rebounds usually gets the victory," Murphy said. "They got more offensive rebounds against our man (defense) than we did against their zone. That (offensive rebounding) is usually the way to beat up the zone. It's frustrating."

Monroe will host Sauk Prairie in a WIAA Division 2 regional quarterfinal on Tuesday.
