Sweep ends Darlington's state hopes

DARLINGTON - The Darlington Cal Ripken baseball team was swept in two games in the 12-year-old state tournament Thursday, ending its run.

Darlington lost a second-round game to Stevens Point 4-2. The Dodgers tcame back from a 4-0 deficit in the sixth when Michael Rus just missed a home run, but drove in two runs with a double.

Darlington was eliminated in the double-elimination state tournament in a second game Thursday with an 8-1 loss to Dodgeville, a team the Dodgers earned a season split with in league play.

"We were really proud of them," state tournament director Scott Heinberg said.
