MADISON - The Monroe Senior Legion baseball team lost in the first round of the Stateline League tournament to Sun Prairie 6-2 on Friday night.

"It was an ugly game both ways," Monroe coach Eric Losenegger said. "We played flat. We didn't make the plays when we had a chance to get out of innings."

Monroe (11-11) managed just one hit, which came on an Austin Burandt single in the second inning. Monroe scored its first run when Ryan Hughes walked with the bases loaded in the third. Alex Einbeck walked and stole second in the fourth to set up the next scoring opportunity. Burandt reached on an error and Einbeck scored to tie the game at 2.

Sun Prairie scored four runs off Monroe pitcher Ryan Erickson in the fifth. Erickson pitched six innings and gave up six unearned runs. He struck out two and walked two.

"The game never felt like it was close," Losenegger said. "We gave them six outs in the fifth."
