Sun Prairie edges Fury in sectional

MADISON - The Rock County Fury girls hockey team's season came to a heartbreaking end after a 3-2 loss to the Sun Prairie co-op in a sectional championship game Saturday at the Madison Ice Arena.

Sun Prairie's Colleen Milligan scored one goal and had two assists to lead the Polar City Cougars to the victory and a state tournament berth. After a scoreless first period, the Polar City Cougars got a goal from Amanda Bauer on assists from Zephryn Jager and Milligan at the 5-minute-22-second mark. Milligan scored her goal about two minutes later to give the Polar Caps a 2-0 lead.

Sun Prairie's Olivia Thompson scored a goal early in the third period on assists by Bauer and Milligan to give the Polar City Cougars a commanding 3-0 lead. The Fury rallied late with two goals, but it wasn't enough.

Maggy Henschler scored a power-play goal on assists by Dani Heitsman and Ally Burke to cut the Polar City Cougars lead to 3-1. Heitsman tacked on a goal on a pass by Henschler to cut the deficit to 3-2.

The Fury outshot the Polar Caps 35-29. Fury goalie McKaylie Buescher had 26 saves. The Fury end the season one win away from state.
