MONROE - It's so far, so great for the Optimist ballclubs in Monroe Area Fastpitch Softball League.
Monroe Optmist's No. 1 and 2 both improved to 3-0 with Red League victories last Sunday. The No. 1 team blanked Stockton, 6-0, behind a 12-strikeout two-hitter thrown by Meghan Roberts. Kristin McArdle had two hits and Brandi Trewartha drove in three runs in the victory.
The No. 2 team squeaked by Lena in the first of two games, 3-2, as Jessica Beckman fanned seven for Monroe. Maggie Schuttler had two RBI-doubles and Kelsey Erickson had two hits.
Then the No. 2 squad rallied to tied Orangeville, 4-4, with a run in the seventh, before scoring three times in the eighth to pull out a 7-4 victory.
In White League play, Monroe No. 3 defeated Juda, 4-2, Monroe Shude ran away from Pecatonica, 14-5 and Brodhead outlasted both Juda and Argyle, 10-6 and 11-7, respectively.
