MCFARLAND - The Sugar River boys track team had six individuals bring home regional titles as the Raiders ran to a WIAA Division 2 McFarland regional championship Tuesday.

Sugar River racked up 151 points to out-distance Madison Edgewood (127) and third-place McFarland (116) for the title. Monroe finished fourth place as a team (73.5).

The top four finishers in each event qualified for the Division 2 Viroqua sectional on Friday. Monroe freshman Brayden Zettle won a regional championship in the triple jump (40 feet, 8 1/2 inches).

"It's tough for a freshman in that event to be that successful," Monroe boys track coach Curt Miller said. "Brayden has come a long way and had some excellent success at the end of the year."

The other regional title for the Cheesemakers came from the 3,200-meter relay team. The Cheesemakers' 3,200 relay team of Dylan Scace, Thang Lu, Jonah Tostrud and Cody Faust finished first place with a time of 8 minutes, 28 seconds.

"We ran pretty controlled," Miller said. "We expect to run quite a bit better at sectionals. If we run an 8:10, I think we have a shot at state."

Monroe junior Tyler Sobacki took second place in the 110 high hurdles (16.77) and Lu was second in the 800 (2:04.60). Faust also qualified for the sectional in the 800 taking third place (2:08.32).

Four area athletes qualified for the sectional in the shot put. Brodhead-Juda senior Logan Maurer won the regional title in the shot put (51 feet, 4 1/2 inches). Sugar River senior Mike Fink took second place (47-10 1/2), junior teammate Landon Zimmerman finished third (47-4 1/2) and Sugar River senior Jackson McMahan was fourth (44-5). In the discus, Zimmerman was the regional champion (167-2). Brodhead-Juda senior Gavin Baade took second (146-9) and Maurer was third place (140-4).

Sugar River senior Brandon Shemanski won a regional title in the 100 (11.90) and in the long jump (19-5 1/2). Brodhead-Juda's Dylan Kubly was fourth place in the 100 (12.06). Sugar River senior Ryan Hayes won a regional championship in the 200 (23.80) and sophomore teammate Cade Martin was fourth (24.51). Hayes added a fourth-place finish in the long jump (19-0).

The Raiders' 800 relay team of Martin, Dalton Fahey, Nick Smith and Colton Boley won a regional championship (1:34.12). Martin and Smith teamed with Hayes and Shemanski to win a regional championship in the 400 relay (44.93). Boley also won a regional title in the 300 hurdles (42.08) and Brodhead-Juda's Reuben Larson took third (44.38).

Lu and Faust teamed with Alex Koller and Jason Koller to take second in the 1,600 relay (3:33.50).

The third relay for the Cheesemakers to qualify for the sectional was the 800 relay team of Jason Koller, Blain Harpstrite, Alex Koller and Cody Wolf with a time of 1:36.16. Harpstrite was the top seed in the 100, but didn't qualify for the sectional in that event due to a false start in the preliminaries. The Cheesemakers' 400 relay team also could have been in a position to qualify, but dropped the baton in the race.

The Raiders had two qualify for the sectional in the 400. Sugar River senior Tanner Hofer took second place (54.82) and junior teammate Ryan Dull was fourth (55.82). Hofer also won a regional championship in the high jump (6-0).

Boley finished third in the 110 hurdles (16.96). Junior teammate Tyler Gilbertson took fourth in the 1,600 (4:47.30).

Brodhead-Juda senior C.J. Hack finished fourth in the 800 (2:08.86). Brodhead-Juda's 3,200 relay team took third place (8:43.53).
