NEW GLARUS - Sugar River junior Sierra Watrud scored two goals Monday night to propel the Raiders to a 3-0 win over Monroe.
Watrud scored her first goal in the 22nd minute. She scored her second goal at 56:48. Sugar River's Brooke Larson scored the final goal at 62:54 to put the Cheesemakers away.
"It's always nice to play our neighbors," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said. "It's always a good rivalry between the two teams."
O'Neill said the key to the game was the Raiders' speed.
"Sugar River is a very physical and speedy team," O'Neill said. "We were beaten a little bit by their speed."
Monroe junior goalkeeper Shyanna Kelley had nine saves. Monroe (1-4, 1-1 Badger South will host Madison Edgewood at 5 p.m. today at Honey Creek Park.
With the win, Sugar River improves to 4-2. The Raiders will host Lodi Tuesday, April 30.
