Sugar River dominates triple-dual

BELLEVILLE - Both the Sugar River boys and girls track teams swept a triple dual meet against Waterloo and Cambridge Tuesday.

The Sugar River boys track team defeated Cambridge 111-35 and Waterloo, 107.5-38.5. The Sugar River girls track team beat Cambridge 124-21 and Waterloo, 117-29.

The Raiders girls team won 15 of the 18 vents including the 400, 800, 1,600 and 3,200 relays. Sugar River's Alexis Hanson won the 100 (:13.52) and the 200 (:27.79).

Victoria Ortgiesen won the 100 hurdles (:16.86) and the 300 hurdles (:50.37). Jessica Putland finished first in two individual events including the shot put (32 feet, 1 inch) and the discus (114-5).

Sugar River's Ashley Brusveen cleared 5-4 to take first in the high jump and Emily Diaz won the 400 with a time of 1:05.92. The other event winners on the girls side included Madeline Brunner (15-0) in the long jump, Sam Stecha (27-9) in the triple jump and Megan Neperud in the pole vault (7-6).

The Sugar River boys track team won 10 of 18 events. Sugar River sophomore Ryan McCoy won the 800 (2:06.99) and the 1,600 (4:38.1). Senior Dennis Haak finished first in the 400 (:53.53) and the 3,200 (10:30.36). McCoy and Haak each had a hand in winning three events. Both of them ran on the winning 1,600 relay.

Jon Beckman won the 110 hurdles (:16.26) and Kelvin Johnson finished first in the 300 hurdles (:44.0). Senior Kirbe French won the long jump (19-1 1/2). The Raiders added wins in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 relays.
