Sugar River boys soar to third

OREGON - The Sugar River boys track team ran to a third-place finish at the Oregon Relays on Friday night.

Sugar River's 3,200-meter relay team led by Dennis Haak and Travis Beutler finished first with a time of 8 minutes, 54.30 seconds, which was less than three seconds ahead of Brodhead-Juda.

Waunakee edged Oregon, 92-83.5 for the title and Brodhead-Juda finished fifth with 56 points.

Sugar River's Jeremy McDermott, Brandan Pittman and Brian Anderson won the 300 hurdle shuttle relay with a time of 2:12.10. The Raiders added a second-place finish in the distance medley.

Brodhead-Juda's 1,600 relay team, including Josh Wilkins, Dan Douglas and Ryan Miller, won the race with a time of 3:35.50. The Cardinals' pole vaulters, including Mitch Wiesenberg and Jordan Riemer, helped the Cardinals win the pole vault with a combined height of 31 feet, 6 inches.

The Cardinals added a second-place finish in the discus (347-6).

In the girls Oregon Relays, Brodhead-Juda finished fourth overall with 71 points. Waunakee edged Oregon for the team title, 88-87. Sugar River finished sixth with 44.5 points.

Brodhead-Juda won both the shot put and discus. In the shot put, Diana Baade and Heather Clankie helped the Cardinals to win the event with a combined distance of 89-7. Clankie, Diana Baade and Stephanie Baade teamed up to win the discus with a combined distance of 269-11.

The Cardinals' pole vaulters finished first with a combined height of 24-0.

The Cardinals took third place in the long jump (43-6) and tied Waunakee for third place in the high jump (13-6).

On the track, the Cardinals finished second in the 800 relay (1:52) and third in the 400 relay (:54.60).

Sugar River finished second in the 300 hurdle relay (2:44.90) and third in the hurdle shuttle relay (:59.50).
