BELLEVILLE - Both the Sugar River girls and boys track teams won the Raider Invitational Friday, May 16.
Sugar River's Krista Diaz won the 100-meter hurdles (15.87) and the 300 hurdles (47.84). Teammate Trisha Wiese finished first in the high jump (4 feet, 8 inches) and Grace Schulting won the long jump (15-11 1/2).
Sugar River's Maria Noelle finished second in the 3,200 (11 minutes, 43.22 seconds) and Madeline Knox took second in the discus (94-0). Albany's Marley Malkow won the discus with a throw of 94-1 1/2. The Raiders' 3,200 relay team of Emily DeNure, Sam Barr, Noelle and Brianne Roska took second with a time of 10:19.73.
The Sugar River girls edged Lodi for the team title 117-112. Black Hawk took seventh (40), Pecatonica-Argyle finished ninth (33), Albany took 11th (26) and Monticello (3) was last out of 13 teams.
Black Hawk senior Jen Wellnitz, the WIAA Division 3 state champion in the 100 last year, won the event with a time of 12.79 and Pecatonica-Argyle's Hannah Swenson took second (13.32). Wellnitz also took second in the triple jump (32-9 1/2) and third in the long jump (15-9).
Pecatonica-Argyle's 400 relay team of Swenson, Josie Penniston, Aimee Von Arx and Katie Zwicker finished second (55.20). The Vikings' 800 relay team of Penniston, Lizzy Ritschard, Von Arx and Zwicker also took second (1:57.6).
Pecatonica-Argyle's Cassdiy Steiner took third in the shot put (30-11) and Albany senior Bailey Hlavachek was third in the 800 (2:24.68).
In the boys' meet, Sugar River ran away with the team title 172-141 over Lodi and the 12-team field. Monticello finished eighth (32) followed by ninth-place Albany (25), 10th-place Black hawk (17) and last place Pecatonica-Argyle (2.5).
Sugar River senior Garrison Woods won the long jump (20-6) and triple jump (42-7). Teammate Brandon Schemanski took second in the long jump (19-10). Sugar River's Landon Zimmerman won both the shot put (44-5) and the discus (135-9). Albany's Logan Webb took second in the discus (133-8).
Sugar River's Tyler Gilbertson won the 3,200 (10:19.87), which was just ahead of second-place John Zuber of Monticello (10:23.57). Tanner Hofer of Sugar River won the 400 (51.93) and teammate Travis Loeffelholz took third in the 800 (2:11.42).
The Raiders' 800 relay team of Cole Martin, Mitchell DeLorme, Ryan Hayes and Woods won the race with a time of 1:34.57, which was about two seconds ahead of Cambridge. The Raiders' 400 relay team of Martin, Ethan Gassman, Hayes and Woods finished second with a time of 45.37. DeLorme teamed with Colton Boley, Tanner Hofer and Kelvin Johnson to take second in the 1,600 relay (3:32.90), which was about 1 second behind Lodi.
Hayes finished second in the 200 (23.8) and DeLorme added a third-place finish in the high jump (5-8).
Black Hawk's Jayden Rufenacht finished second in the 100 (11.55) and third in the 200 (23.33). Monticello's Hunter Pratt took second in the 1,600 (4:49.88) and Sugar River's Tucker McMahan took third (4:52.88).
