MONROE - Monroe High School senior Skylar Lassen had a hand in winning three events in a dual meet against Milton Tuesday at the Green County Family YMCA.
Lassen won the 200-meter freestyle in a time of 2 minutes, 20.25 seconds and won the 100 backstroke (1:12.83). Her times in both of those events were personal bests.
"She (Lassen) was really focused tonight," Monroe-New Glarus coach Linda Moser said. "She was much more confident in what she needed to do and how to do it. Her work ethic in the pool is very strong. I know she has her eyes on some state times. It's something we have talked about since the beginning of the season."
Lassen teamed with junior Maddie Hammer, junior Grace Keith and sophomore Nina Schiro to win the 200 medley relay in a of 2:13.74.
Milton defeated Monroe-New Glarus in the dual meet 108.5-61.5.
"The girls swam with a lot more confidence than they did against Edgewood last week," Moser said. "They showed they have the confidence to race with the strongest competitors. We have three really tough meets with McFarland coming up next week."
Keith swam to a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly with a personal record of 1:16.97.
Schiro also swam two PRs in the meet. She finished second in the 400 freestyle in 5:04.55 and third in the 200 individual medley in 2:44.04.
The Cheesemakers' 200 freestyle relay team of Hammer, junior Brynn Ritschard, junior Madison Katzenberger and sophomore Emily Meritt placed second (2:05.33). Lassen teamed with sophomore Cammi Ganshert, Meritt and Schiro to take second in the 400 freestyle relay (4:35.51).
Monroe freshman Kayleigh Nesbitt swam a PR in the backstroke (1:29), and Ritschard turned in a PR in the 50 freestyle (31.79).
Milton knocked off Monroe in the junior varsity meet 88-41.
