ASHWAUBENON - Black Hawk senior Cheyenne Stewart had the honor of singing the national anthem at the WIAA Division 5 state championship game Saturday at the Resch Center, and it brought a rush of emotions.
Stewart not only serves as a player for the Warriors, but she usually sings "The Star-Spangled Banner" for home games. Singing before the state title game, she got the opportunity to show off her voice. The crowd roared after her performance and brought goose bumps to some.
She didn't show any butterflies in her performance.
"It was the greatest feeling of my life," Stewart said.
Stewart has been a member of the Black Hawk High School choir for four years. It was a highlight and experience she will never forget.
"The crowd going wild after it was over" was her favorite part of the state tournament, she said.
Stewart plans to attend Blackhawk Technical College in Janesville next fall to pursue a nursing degree. She will always savor her final year playing basketball.
"It's just great to have an opportunity to play at the state tournament," Stewart said. "I don't know if I will sing more after this year. I will always remember my basketball family."
