BRODHEAD - Senior Erika Stampfli's RBI single with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning capped a furious rally by the Brodhead Cardinals on their way to a dramatic 9-8 win over Big Foot in a Rock Valley South conference game Tuesday.

It appeared as if Big Foot was about to hand the Cardinals their first conference loss of the season after scoring six runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-2 lead. The Cardinals rallied with a run in the bottom of the fifth, followed by three more runs in the sixth to draw to within 8-6.

Stampfli struck out the side in the seventh, giving the Cardinals a chance in their final at-bat.

With one out, Bri Hicks hit a solo home run to make the score 8-7. Senior Tia Collins reached on an error, advanced to second on a passed ball and then stole third.

Sophomore Amanda Pickel drove in Collins with an RBI triple and tied the game at 8-8. After walks to sophomore Taylor Douglas and senior Shianne Strommen loaded the bases, Stampfli's walk-off single brought home Pickel with the game-winning run.

Collins and Stampfli both went 3 for 5 as the Cardinals had 13 hits.

Brodhead (14-2, 10-0 Rock Valley South) will host Parkview Thursday.
