MONROE - The Monroe Youth Hockey Squirts (9- and 10-year-olds) won two out of their three games this weekend.

Opening at home Saturday morning, the Avalanche prevailed over Verona, 7-4.

Scoring goals for Monroe were Tyler Johnson with five and one each by Jacob Ritschard and Jamaar Manor.

Johnson, Ritschard, Trenten Prien and Joe Wyss were credited with assists. Goalie Kobe Manor recorded 15 saves.

The Monroe team traveled to McFarland Sunday and came away with a 6-2 win.

Johnson again led the Avalanche with four goals. Rounding out the Monroe scoring were Prien and Kobe Manor with a goal apiece. Connor Nafzger and Daniel Ward each had an assist for Monroe and Ritschard was credited with seven saves in goal.

With less than two hours between games, the Avalanche returned to SLICE to face Baraboo. This time they came up on the short and lost, 6-4.

Jamaar Manor scored two goals for Monroe, and Johnson and Prien had one each. Assists were credited to Nafzger and Cade Janecke. Goalie Ritschard had 19 saves.
