MONROE - The Monroe Avalanche Squirt A team took charge early and often at home, amassing 62 shots on goal en route to a 14-1 win over the Wisconsin Dells Blades Saturday.

Anika Einbeck got her first of two goals halfway through the first period, off an assist from Luke Kuberski. Seven seconds later, Tessa Janecke found the back of the net, and Alyssa Knauf rounded out the first period scoring with a goal assisted by Einbeck.

In the second period, Roman Bauer got things started from the blue line off a corner pass from Cade Janecke. Cade then sent it between the pipes twice, with assists from Bauer, Tessa Janecke and Hayden Roth. Kuberski added to the lead midway through the period, and the goals continued to pile up as Cade Janecke and Broc Kuberski found the back of the net, assisted by Tessa Janecke and Alex Henry respectively.

The Avalanche took the opportunity to make some position changes in the third period but continued to dominate both sides of the ice. Luke Kuberski scored his third and fourth goals on assists from Henry, Roth and Bauer. Einbeck and Roth both followed with goals of their own, both assisted by Tessa Janecke. Excellent defensive play required goalie Heath Bear to only make three saves on the day, but he was denied a shutout after a Blade's goal late in the third period. Bauer lit the lamp once more to end the scoring outburst, giving the Avalanche offense a total of 62 shots on goal for the game.

Williams later scored his 20th goal of the season, assisted by Alvin Buholzer. Goalie Aiden Runkle made six saves on the day, while the offense put 27 shots on goal.

Many were on hand for the annual Teacher and Grandparent Appreciation Day at SLICE on Saturday, and they witnessed the Avalanche tie the Madison Ice Spirit, 3-3.

With an obvious size advantage, the Ice Spirit opened up the scoring in the first period. Monroe's Tessa Janecke quickly answered with an unassisted goal, ending the period at 1-1.

In the second period, the Ice Spirit took the lead with a goal. The Avalanche were unable to answer, despite the six shots on goal.

Third period play seemed to mirror the second early on, with another Ice Spirit goal that put the Avalanche down 3-1. Ten minutes later Janecke drove to the net and scored her second, to cut the lead to 3-2. Stellar defense and net play continued until Alyssa and Haley Knauf set up Janecke for the game tying goal, her third. Goalie Heath Bear ended the day with 17 saves, while the offense put 17 shots on goal.
