SOUTH WAYNE - Paige Butler scored 12 of her game-high 25 points in the first quarter as the Warriors cruised past the Orioles, 68, 23.
"This is the game we wanted our girls to focus on," Black Hawk head coach Mike Flanagan said. "We didn't want people looking past this game for Saturday's game (against Barneveld). If we do that, we may get sloppy. We wanted to be solid, focused, respecting and play hard."
The Warriors used a full court press in the first quarter to jump out to a 24-8 lead on Argyle. By halftime, Black Hawk had pulled away by 18 points, 31-13.
In the second half, the Warriors jumped out quickly, outscoring Argyle 21-5 in the third quarter. With the game in tact, Flanagan was allowed to freely subsitute his entire bench into the game to get well earned playing time.
"We got a real good balance tonight. Everyone got in, everyone scored, and it was just a great game to have on Senior Night," Flanagan said.
All 11 players on the Warriors bench scored in the game. Katie Place, Melissa Wellnitz and Maria Meives all had seven points and Rachel Rygh added six. Butler hit four 3-pointers in the game for Black Hawk.
Brooke Nipple scored five points for Argyle. Teammates Jackie Dammen, Kelsey Ostby, Katie Dammen and Sierra Granberg each had four points in the game.
Pecatonica 53, Albany 35
BLANCHARDVILLE - Pecatonica girls basketball coach Mike Armitage wanted his seniors to go out with a bang.
Pecatonica senior Brittany Kent scored a game-high 18 points and assured the seniors would shine on Senior Night as the Vikings cruised to a 53-35 win.
Pecatonica (11-7, 5-5) avenged a loss earlier this year at Albany. The Vikings outscored the Comets 10-2 in the first quarter and led 20-14 at halftime.
"The main thing is we just want to focus on doing things right," Armitage said. "There is certainly room for improvement. We wanted the seniors to go out on a good note and they did that."
The Vikings blew the game open with a 25-6 third quarter run. Pecatonica junior Kimee Chandler added 14 points.
Albany (11-8, 6-4) was led by sophomore Sydney Bump who scored a team-high 16 points. Albany senior Nicolette Blumer chipped in nine.
