GRATIOT - Black Hawk junior Kim Wellnitz pitched a no-hitter to lead the Warriors to a 10-0 five-inning softball win Tuesday over Albany.

Wellnitz struck out 10 in the win.

"She was on," Black Hawk coach Roger Jackson said.

"She threw the ball better than the other night. That's encouraging," Jackson said of Wellnitz walking just three batters. It's quite a drop from eight."

Black Hawk (2-0, 1-0 Six Rivers East) scored four runs in the second inning, including senior Paige Butler's two-run single.

"That was the big hit of that inning," Jackson said.

The Warriors put the game away with a four-run fifth. Black Hawk sophomore Melissa Wellnitz was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and Riley Argall was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Black Hawk collected eight hits.

"At least we are hitting the ball a little bit," Jackson said. "We were happy to get the win."

JUDA 8, PECATONICA 5

JUDA - Amber Ramos struck out eight hitters and allowed just three hits as the Panthers picked up their first win of the year.

Pecatonica drew first blood in the third inning, plating two in the top half. Juda countered with one run in the third and five in the fourth.

"We played a lot of small ball," Panthers coach Bill Davis said. "We kept putting down bunts with runners on second and third. We forced them to either take the out or try for home. Sometimes we beat out the throw, sometimes there were errors and other times we got out.

"If we had first and third, we'd steal second and bunt all over again."

C.J. Dunwiddie and Ali Pierce each had a hit for Juda (1-4, 1-0 Six Rivers East), and Ramos added a double.

Kaitlyn Linder had a hit for Pecatonica and Kaci Cassidy had five strikeouts, while allowing six hits on the mound.

The Vikings go to New Glarus on Thursday, while the Panthers travel to Wisconsin Heights.

EAST TROY 4, BRODHEAD 3

BRODHEAD - The Cardinals fell despite a terrific day on the hill from sophomore ace Erika Stampfli.

Stampfli struck out 14 batters, while allowing just three hits. However, four runs (two earned) crossed over the final three innings in the loss.

Brodhead took a 3-0 lead after the second inning, despite getting just a single hit in the frame. East Troy scored a run in each of the fifth and sixth innings and plated two in the seventh.

Brodhead had four errors, and Stampfli walked six batters. She also added a triple at the plate.

BARNEVELD 9, ARGYLE 4

BARNEVELD - The Orioles dropped their Six Rivers Conference opener to Barneveld.

Argyle sophomore Kelsey Bartels went the distance and struck out 10, and gave up nine runs on nine hits.

Argyle had three players with mutli-hit games, including Danielle Truethardt (2-for-3), Kelsey Ostby (2-for-3) and Sierra Granberg (2-for-4).

The Eagles scored four runs in the fifth and sealed the win with a five-run sixth.

CUBA CITY 11, DARLINGTON 1

CUBA CITY - The Redbirds could manage only four hits in the loss to Cuba City.
