DARLINGTON - Darlington's softball team capped a big comeback win in nine innings Thursday over rival Shullsburg-Benton, 7-6.
S-B took a 4-0 lead after the first two innings, only to see Darlington plate four runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game.
As extra innings unfolded, S-B scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning, only to be matched in the bottom.
A scoreless ninth by the Redbird defense allowed for a chance to win the game.
Katie Wiederholt (2-for-5) sat on third base as Kari Blosch (2-for-3) stepped to the plate. Blosch rifled a would-be double, plating Wiederholt.
"We were just able to string together enough hits together to get the win," Darlington coach Rebecca Norgard said.
Courtney McBee and Katie Martin both were 3-for-5. Allison Taylor pitched the first two innings for Darlington and Laura Steiner went the final seven for the win. Steiner struck out four batters and walked one in seven innings.
SOUTHWESTERN 2, ARGYLE 0
ARGYLE - Kelsey Bartels allowed just one hit, fanned 11 and walked nine, but the Orioles failed to muster up any offense.
"(Bartels) pitched really well," Argyle coach Heidi Ganshert said. "She got out of a lot of trouble. The walks didn't hurt us."
Southwestern scored one run in the first inning and added one more in the seventh for insurance.
"We only had one bad error in the first. We just didn't hit well at all," Ganshert said. "But we will keep improving."
Jeannie Dammen and Kelsey Ostby had the Orioles' only two hits. Arygle travels to Darlington on Monday, April 13.
WISCONSIN HEIGHTS 13, JUDA 3
WISCONSIN HEIGHTS - Amber Ramos, who struck out eight, took the loss on the hill for the Panthers, but the damage was not all her fault.
Juda's defense committed 10 errors, allowing Wisconsin Heights to score 10 runs over the final three innings of the six-inning contest.
"We must have had 10 errors - at least," Juda coach Bill Davis said. "In the sixth inning, we just collapsed."
Trailing 6-3 headed into the bottom of the sixth, Juda committed numerous errors in allowing seven runs to the Vanguards. Ali Pierce took over on the mound to start the sixth and allowed four hits and two walks.
"It was just one of those things. It was a pretty good game until that inning," Davis said.
Tara Allen had a double in the first inning. Erika Kundert, Megan Trotter and Ramos each had the other three Juda hits in the game.
The Panthers (1-5, 1-0), host Monticello on Tuesday, April 14.
