Soddy, Noriega team up to win city doubles title

MONROE - Joe Soddy and Kevin Noriega teamed up to win the championship of the 45th annual Class A men's Monroe City Doubles Tournament on Sunday.

Soddy and Noriega defeated Al Schroeder and Chris Garrow 6-4, 6-4. Soddy and Noriega reached the final by knocking off Kevin Monahan and Matt Monahan in the semifinals 6-4, 6-4. Schroeder and Garrow beat Ed Schradermeier and Frank Meier 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinals.

Schradermeier and Meier defeated the Monahans in the third-place match 6-3, 6-4. The consolation was won by Silas Setterstrom and Marius Dornhagen-Schradermeier, who beat Jakob Baertschi and Ellyott Baertschi 6-2, 6-0.

The women's open tournament was won by Emily Grossen and Kelsey Erickson. Grossen and Erickson defeated Ellie Grossen and Brooke McBain in the title match 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. Emily Grossen and Erickson beat Maggie Setterstrom and Grace Tostrud in the semifinals 6-3, 6-3, while Ellie Grossen and McBain defeated Jill Belardi and Uli Dornhagen 5-7, 6-3, 6-0.

Belardi and Uli Dornhagen defeated Maggie Setterstrom and Tostrud 6-0, 6-1 for third place. Paige Prien and Ashley Placek defeated Hallie Signer and Kiara Miller in the consolation final 6-3, 0-6, 6-1. The women's tournament featured seven three-set matches.
