MADISON - For most of Tuesday's Badger South opener, the Monroe girls soccer team's defense stood tall against Madison Edgewood. But the Crusaders' depth prevailed, and Monroe fell 2-0 at Breese Stevens Field.

Edgewood's Emma DallaGrana scored an unassisted goal at 34 minutes, 3 seconds to give the Crusaders a 1-0 lead.

Claire Kinderman cashed in on a cross and scored a goal at 61:19 to seal the victory for the Crusaders.

"I really thought our players put forth a tremendous defensive effort," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said. "We were under such attack the entire time. It was just amazing they could keep them out for 34 minutes."

The Cheesemakers (0-2-2, 0-1 Badger South) had a tough time controlling the ball in the second half.

"Edgewood has tremendous depth," O'Neill said. "Every player has speed and skill."

Monroe will host Monona Grove at 5 p.m. Thursday at Honey Creek Park.
