SOUTH BELOIT, Ill. - Some might call Albany's 2-1 loss at South Beloit, Ill., a near-miss stalemate.
Comets first-year coach Brian Dahl is calling it a promising defensive masterpiece.
"I was happy with the fact that we didn't have any mental errors and the lack of hitting is because we haven't been outside or seen live pitching," Dahl said.
The Sobos finally scraped across the game-winning run in the bottom half of the sixth inning due to walks and a passed ball that let the decisive tally across.
Seniors Brock Peters, Jordan Dean and Drew Peach combined on the pitching duties for Albany, which had just two hits.
Evansville 10,
New Glarus 2
After New Glarus took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning at Evansville, the Blue Devils flexed some experienced muscles.
The Glarner Knights finally took their operation outdoors, only to see Evansville eventually break things open in a 10-2 final, much thanks to a 6-run fifth inning that was riddled with walks, bean balls and three singles.
Tucker Johnson picked up the victory for the Blue Devils and fanned four hitters in as many innings worked.
Evansville improved its young record to 2-0 while the Glarner Knights saw their first live pitching of the season.
