MIDDLETON - Monroe sophomore Jordan Hirsbrunner set a new Badger South Conference meet record en route to winning a title in the high jump Tuesday.
Hirsbrunner cleared 5 feet, 41⁄4 inches to win the conference title and set a conference meet record. Hirsbrunner also won a conference title in the 300-meter hurdles (47.42 seconds) and took third place in the 100 hurdles (16.05).
"It was a big jump on a big day," Monroe girls track coach Matt Davis said of Hirsbrunner. "When the pressure was on, Jordan delivered in spades. It was really special for her and her family."
Both of Hirsbrunner's times in the hurdles were season-best performances. She helped the Monroe girls track team run to a fourth-place finish in the Badger South Conference meet by racking up 85 points.
The Cheesemakers ran without junior Abby Oudinot who suffered a knee injury and will miss the rest of the season. Stoughton won the conference championship edging Oregon 162.5-152 and the rest of the eight-team field.
"Our goal at the beginning of the year with everyone healthy was top three," Davis said. "We had a lot of girls step up and get PRs. We did better than expected. We were right in the middle of the conference."
The Cheesemakers' 3,200-relay team of Isabel Bazley, Mya Waterman, Rachel Meier and Ciara Kaderly won with a time of 10 minutes, 2.26 seconds.
"That is an outstanding time," Davis said. "They ran a time I don't think any of us expected. It was nice to start out the meet on a good note. It helped set the pace."
Kaderly finished second place in the 3,200 with a season-best time of 11:58.25. Madison Edgewood senior Amy Davis won the 3,200 (10:48.58). Davis was also the conference champion in the 1,600 (4:54.56).
"Ciara really battled," Davis said. "That was big for her."
Bazley and Waterman teamed with Lexus Trickel and Hirsbrunner to finish third place in the 1,600 relay (4:11.66). Monroe sophomore Alicia Kuester took third place in the triple jump (33-1 1/2). Davis said Kuester entered the season jumping in the 29-0 range.
"Alicia is just someone who is continuing to get better in the triple jump," he said.
Monroe sophomore Josie Eberle finished third in the pole vault (9-0) and senior teammate Ramsey Benkert took fourth place (9-0).
"We really have some depth in the pole vault with those two," Davis said. "It's a tough event."
