CLINTON - Brodhead sophomore Ned Slocum scored a game-high 41 points to lead the Cardinals to a 62-51 overtime upset of Clinton on Friday, Nov. 23.

Slocum's 41 points were just two shy of the school record (43) set by assistant coach Lon Lederman.

The turning point in the game came with Clinton leading 51-46 in the fourth quarter. Slocum hit a shot to cut the deficit to three. The Cougars then missed four consecutive free throws. Slocum pushed the ball down the court and made a shot he was fouled on. He converted the conventional three-point play by sinking the free throw to tie the game.

The Cougars had the ball with four seconds to go, but Marc Eliszewski's 3-pointer rattled out. The Cougars, who didn't score in overtime, missed two free throws in the extra session. A layup by Tjaden Sanders and a shot by Slocum gave the Cardinals a 55-51 lead.

Clinton was picked as the preseason favorite in the Rock Valley South Conference.

Brodhead's Josiah DeLorme added nine points and Griffin Day added seven points.

Brodhead will play at Albany Saturday.
