MONROE - The first of three summer tennis tournaments, sponsored by the Monroe Park and Recreation Department, is slated for June 26 and 27.
This will be the 39th annual city singles tournament, and it is open to anyone.
The tournament could feature up to six brackets, but in recent years has included only four brackets because of the number of participants. The brackets include Class A Mens and Womens, the championship flights, Class B Mens and Womens, which is for intermediate players; and the 14-and-younger bracket.
The brackets will close after 16 players have entered to prevent playing more than two matches in one day. The entry fee is $10 for players 14 years of age and older and $5 for the 14 and younger.
The womens and youth brackets will start at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 26 at Recreation Park. The mens brackets will follow at 12:30 p.m. All final matches will be played Sunday afternoon.
Tennis awards, including trophies and T-Shirts, will be awarded. Tennis balls are furnished by the park department.
A city doubles tournament will follow July 17 and 18, and a mixed doubles Aug. 7 and 8.
To register or for more information, call tournament director Jim Bartholf, (608) 325 9402. The deadline to enter is noon, Friday, June 25.
