Singles tournament registration underway

MONROE - The city singles tennis tournament is slated for July 15 and 16.

It will be the 46th year of city singles tournament, which is sponsored by the Monroe Parks and Recreation Department.

The tournament is open to anyone and will offer four brackets. There will be a Class A men's bracket for intermediate to advanced players over the age of 14, a Class B men's bracket for intermediate to beginner players older than 14, a women's open bracket for all women over the age of 14, and a youth bracket for boys and girls 14 and younger.

All players must sign up for the tournament by noon July 14. Once a bracket reaches 16 players, no more entrants will be allowed in that bracket. The entry fee is $15 for anyone older than 14, and $10 for youth 14 and younger.

All participants will be notified of their start time during the afternoon of July 14. The women's open and youth brackets will start play at 8 a.m. July 15 with other brackets following. Semifinals and finals will be played on July 16, with play starting at 9 a.m.
