STOUGHTON - A quirk in the schedule has the Monroe boys tennis team playing in Stoughton twice in two days.
The Cheesemakers made sure their trip back to Viking Country for today's Stoughton Invitational was a pleasant one by rolling to a 6-1 victory in a Badger South Conference match Friday afternoon.
It was a solid effort for the Cheesemakers following a 4-3 loss to Milton on Thursday.
"The boys bounced back and played well," Monroe coach Brad Saugstad said.
Monroe swept the four singles matches.
"Our singles played much better tonight," Saugstad said. "The boys were keeping more balls in play and playing smarter points. Each one of the singles players was down at some point in time in their match, but they were all able to fight back."
Taylor Soddy and Kevin Noriega rolled to straight-set wins at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Soddy topped Elijah Thunel 6-0, 6-3 and Noriega defeated Tanner Kahl 6-3, 6-4. Matt Monahan battled to win the second set in a 6-2, 7-5 triumph against Matthew Gharrity and Eric Bush dropped the first set before rallying to win 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
In doubles action, the Cheesemakers' No. 3 unit of Luke Andraski and Jeremy Miller rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 win against Austin Scheel and Kai Hedstrom.
"Three doubles made quick work of their opponents for the second night in a row," Saugstad said.
Monroe's No. 2 doubles tandem of Bob Seichter and Josh Riese worked hard for a 7-5, 7-5 victory against Nick Clerkin and Manuel Calzada.
"Two doubles didn't play their best tennis, but at the end of each set they came up with some big shots when they needed it," Saugstad said.
Stoughton notched its lone victory at No. 1 doubles, with Bubba Schaffer and John Evans rallying for a 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 decision against the Cheesemakers' Cristian Noriega and Kevin Kohlstedt.
Monroe is scheduled to play in the Stoughton Invitational today.
