MONROE - Seven area basketball players received Wisconsin Basketball Coaches All-State first-team recognition.

Monroe seniors Ashley Hermanson and Jamie Armstrong were named to the WBCA All-State Division 2 team. Armstrong and Hermanson each eclipsed the 1,000-point milestone this season.

Hermanson was a unanimous choice on the 2010 WBCA Division 2 All-State Team. It marks the second straight year Hermanson was named to the first-team WBCA All-State team. Armstrong also was named to the all-state team. Hermanson, a University of Nebraska-Kearney recruit, is a key reason the Cheesemakers made their third straight state tournament appearance this year. The 6-foot senior averaged over 11 points and seven rebounds per game.

Armstrong, a George Washington volleyball recruit, averaged 11.8 points, 9.6 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game.

Black Hawk senior Kim Wellnitz, who will play basketball at UW-Platteville next year, and Pecatonica senior Kimee Chandler were named to the WBCA Division 4 All-State team.

Wellnitz, who is the leading scorer in Black Hawk history, averaged 13.9 points and 7.1 rebounds in leading the Warriors to a state runner-up finish. Chandler, a UW-Milwaukee recruit, averaged 17.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 3.5 steals per game.

Monticello junior point guard Tyler Ritschard was selected to the Division 4 all-state team after guiding the Ponies to a 20-4 mark, a Six Rivers East Conference co-championship with Barneveld and a sectional appearance. Ritschard averaged (15.8 ppg) and helped lead the Ponies to the sectional semifinal where they lost to Barneveld.
