EAST TROY - Monroe senior Silas Setterstrom won a match in the WIAA Division 2 East Troy subsectional and moves on to the sectional tournament.
Setterstrom defeated Jefferson's Blake Drays 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles to advance to the East Troy sectional on Wednesday.
"Silas again set the tone as the No. 1 seed in the subsectional," Monroe coach Matt Bordner said. "Our focus turns towards Silas in sectionals, and we look forward to the challenges that are ahead.
"He's really worked hard to elevate his game, and I know he will come out prepared to battle on Wednesday."
Both senior Nick Baumann at No. 2 singles and Quinn Walsh at No. 4 singles picked up wins in first-round subsectional matches but lost second-round matches.
Baumann beat Delavan-Darien's Ian Bullock 6-0, 7-5 in the first round and then lost to McFarland's Caden Consolatti 6-2, 6-1.
At No. 3 singles, Shawn Hughes of the St. John's Northwestern Military Academy beat Monroe's Nathan Smith 6-4, 6-4.
Walsh defeated St. John's Northwestern Military Academy's Yun Yi Deang 6-0, 6-0. Then, East Troy's Jared Paullin beat Walsh 6-0, 6-0.
Monroe seniors Ryan Peterson and Alex Tordoff at No. 1 doubles defeated St. John's Northwestern Military Academy's Alex Moore and Sawyer Cartwright 7-6 (3), 6-3. Big Foot's Logan Grunow and Hamilton Smith then knocked off Peterson and Tordoff 6-1, 6-2 in the second round. Edgerton's Matthew Pierce and Henry Conway at No. 2 doubles knocked off Monroe seniors Jacob Kind and Ross Oxenrider 6-2, 6-2.
At No. 3 doubles, the Cheesemakers' Landon Knobel and Scott Navarro beat St. John's Northwestern Military Academy's Xiaotian Jiang and Junkang Wu 6-4, 4-6, (10-8) in a first-round match. Big Foot's Gunnar Smith and Jack Grunow then beat Knobel and Navarro 6-1, 6-0.
"I was really proud of the way all of our guys fought especially since this was the first postseason tennis experience for almost all of our varsity lineup," Bordner said.
