BELOIT - Monroe seniors Kirsten Vetterli and Taylor Barrett combined for 35 points to propel the Cheesemakers to a 62-54 win over Beloit Memorial in a non-conference game Tuesday, Feb. 4.

Monroe (5-10, 2-5 Badger South) raced out to a 22-13 lead in the first quarter. Vetterli scored a team-high 19 points and went 10 of 10 from the free throw line. Barrett scored 16 points. The Cheesemakers have won two straight games and play at Milton at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

"It's just one of those things where you hit some shots and it just becomes contagious," Monroe coach Sam Mathiason said. "We had nice balance and I thought we did a good job of moving the ball."

The Cheesemakers got a spark in the first quarter on 3-pointers by Barrett and sophomore Brooke Adams. The Cheesemakers led 37-28 at the half.

Beloit Memorial's Daijah Evans scored a game-high 20 points. She scored 13 points in the first half and teammate Sherriah Anderson scored nine of her 11 points in the first half on three 3-pointers.

"Part of it was on the defensive end," Mathiason said. "We had to limit their touches. I thought we did a pretty good job in the second half."

Monroe junior Alacia Keegan scored nine points. Senior Whitney Disch and Adams each added eight points.
