MONROE - The Monroe boys tennis team had a difficult day Thursday, but the No. 2 doubles team of Bob Seichter and John Riese provided a definite bright spot in a 6-1 loss to Waunakee.
Seichter and Riese recorded the Cheesemakers' lone victory - a 6-3, 6-0 decision against Jason Ripp and Sam Skaaland.
"Bob and Josh played their best match of the year," Saugstad said. "They just took over the match at the net and played with a ton of energy. I'm hoping they can build off of this match and continue playing at this high level."
Wauankee swept the singles matches. Monroe's Taylor Soddy lost 6-4, 6-0 to Calvin Clack at No. 1 in the most competitive of the four matches.
"Wauankee has a great singles lineup," Saugstad said. "They cold be the top four singles players at their positions in the conference. Taylor played a very good first set against Clack, but they were just too good in singles."
Monroe's other two doubles teams lost in straight sets.
