SUN PRAIRIE - A late first-half surge helped lead Hustisford to a 59-43 win over the Argyle boys basketball team in a WIAA Division 5 sectional semifinal Thursday at Sun Prairie High School.
Argyle (17-9) was tied with Hustisford with about 4 minutes left in the first half. The Falcons closed the first half on a 9-0 run to take a 26-17 lead at the break.
"We wanted our guards to control the tempo and from the start they did that," Argyle coach Justin Jenson said. "They (Hustisford) went on a little run. It was a big momentum swing for them."
Argyle senior Riley Ostby scored a team-high 17 points to lead the Orioles. Junior teammate Collin Argue added nine points.
The Falcons soon opened a 13-point lead in the second half. Trailing by 10 points late, Argyle was forced to foul to get the ball back.
Argyle closes the season with its first regional championship in boys basketball in 79 years.
"We played them tough," Jenson said. "We left it all out there. No one has anything to hang their head about and everything in the world to be proud of. They made their free throws, and we were not able to convert on our openings."
