ALBANY - Argyle junior Jena Saalsaa scored a game-high 24 points and eclipsed the 1,000-career point milestone to propel the Orioles to a 49-41 win over Albany Tuesday.

The game was tied at 40 with 3 minutes left. Albany (7-9, 4-4 Six Rivers East) had a couple chances down the stretch to take the lead, but couldn't convert.

"We had two possessions where we had clean and good looks at the basket," Albany coach Derik Doescher said. "We didn't knock them down. The girls played very hard. That's a good basketball team that is well coached. We preach that against a good team like Argyle, you just want to have a chance in the end and we did. It's a credit to Argyle. They did the little things down the stretch to take care of business."

Argyle (13-3, 7-2 Six Rivers East) made 26 of 44 free throws. Albany made 17 of 31 from the charity stripe. Albany junior Payton Zurfluh scored a team-high 14 points and senior Haley Freitag added 12.

"We have to do a better job of moving our feet," Doescher said. "We limited them to 49 points and that is pretty remarkable since we were called for 31 fouls."

In the final 2 minutes, the Comets were playing without Freitag, junior Libby Beck and junior Sydney Mortaloni since each fouled out.

"That really hampered us," Doescher said.

Argyle junior Alysabeth Lantz added 8 points and junior Kirsten Ostby chipped in 7.
