Rygh reins in top award

MONROE - The honors keep rolling in for the Black Hawk girls basketball team.

Black Hawk senior Rachel Rygh was named the Six Rivers East Conference Player of the Year and coach Mike Flanagan was named the conference's coach of the year.

Black Hawk (26-0), ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press Division 5 state poll, had three players named first team, all-conference after the Warriors won the conference championship for the third straight year. In addition to Rygh, Black Hawk senior Melissa Wellnitz and freshman Jen Wellnitz were first team all-conference selections.

Juda junior Ellen Kiser was named to the first team, as was Juda junior C.J. Dunwiddie. Barneveld had two players selected to the first team, including junior Hailey Cannoy and sophomore Madison Laube.

The other first team, all-conference players include Albany senior Sydney Bump, Pecatonica senior Alisha Esselstein and Monticello senior Taylor Pfeuti.

Seven area players received honorable mention all-conference including Black Hawk senior Alyssa Piefer and Juda senior Alycia Grenzow. The Comets had two players - senior Courtney Pfeuti and senior Hillary Best received honorable mention recognition. The other honorable mention all-conference selections included Monticello junior Becky Nelson, Pecatonica senior Ellie Gifford and Argyle junior Danielle Treuthardt.
