MCFARLAND - Monroe senior Rachel Root continues setting a high bar in the pool.

Root won the 100-meter backstroke in a dual meet against McFarland Tuesday night in a personal record time of 1 minute, 7.22 seconds. She took second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:29.55. McFarland defeated Monroe 134-36. The Cheesemakers set seven PRs.

"Tonight we swam against a tough team and we have many more of those swims ahead of us this season," Monroe coach Linda Moser said. "We are for the most part a novice swim team, but that doesn't mean we will allow that to stand in our way of getting better each time."

The other season best times include Lauren Werth and Amanda Putz in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.

Anna Meritt set a PR by almost 10 seconds in the 100 butterfly race and Grace Moehn also had a PR by almost 10 seconds in the 100 breaststroke. Alyssa Sinkule had a PR in the 100 backstroke.
