MAZOMANIE - Monroe freshman Brynn Ritschard scored two goals to power the Cheesemakers to a 3-1 win over Wisconsin Heights Monday.

Ritschard scored her first goal on an assist from junior Maddie Kallgren at 6 minutes, 39 seconds. Ritschard scored her second goal on an assist from senior Kathryn Anderson at 31:03 to give the Cheesemakers a 2-0 lead at the half.

"It's nice to see them assert themselves early on," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said. "It's nice going into the second half knowing that we had a little bit of a cushion."

With the win, Monroe improves to 5-3-2. Ritschard has now scored 11 goals in 10 games.

"Brynn has a great ability to see a little bit of space, turn and shoot the ball past the keeper," O'Neill said.

Monroe's Payton Noble scored a goal off a free kick from Reily Pond at 70:34 to give the Cheesemakers a commanding 3-0 lead. Pond played goalie in the first half and had five saves.

Monroe senior goalkeeper Gwendolyn Ambrose returned after missing the last six games due to a concussion. Ambrose had seven saves in the second half.

"She's healthy again," O'Neill said of Ambrose. "It was nice to have two keepers so we could play Reily in the field. We need each of them."

Monroe will play at Big Foot today and will open up the Badger South Conference season at No. 2 state ranked Oregon Thursday.

"We have been trying to work on communication and combinations," O'Neill said. "I thought we really had some nice combinations between our midfielders and forwards."
