MONROE - Freshman Brynn Ritschard scored the game-winning goal for Monroe on a direct kick with about 3 minutes left to give the Cheesemakers a thrilling 3-2 win over Milton Tuesday at Honey Creek Park.

"It was a beautifully placed direct free kick over the wall," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said. "The keeper didn't stand a chance."

With the win, Monroe improves to 7-7-2, 1-3 Badger South. Early on, the Cheesemakers set the tone.

Monroe junior Maddie Kallgren scored a goal off a corner kick by Emily Frankowski at 22 minutes, 29 seconds to give the Cheesemakers a 1-0 lead. With goals off a direct kick and corner kick, O'Neill liked the way the Cheesemakers cashed in on their scoring opportunities.

"You like to see them start finishing on those set pieces," O'Neill said. "They came out early very determined to score the first goal and they did."

Milton's Brittany Riesterer scored a game-tying goal at 33:58 to tie the game at 1.

The Red Hawks took a 2-1 lead on Hailie Campion's goal at 48:20. It didn't take the Cheesemakers long to answer. Monroe freshman Morgan Seffrood scored a game-tying goal on an assist from Kallgren at 54:19. That set the stage for Ritschard's game-winning goal at 87:07.

Monroe freshman Reily Pond had five saves as goalkeeper in the second half and senior Gwendolyn Ambrose had four saves in the first half.
