Redbirds take boys and girls SWAL

CUBA CITY - A one point advantage is all that made the Darlington girls cross country team the champions of the SWAL Conference meet at Cole Acres Golf Course Thursday. The Redbirds finished with 43 points to top Fennimore with 44 points while another cross country powerhouse, Boscobel, finished third with 60 points.

Fennimore's Kayla Sheckles topped all runners with a time of 16:24. Darlington freshman Cheyanne Wolfe came in third at 16:43 and freshman Christa Wamsley finished sixth in 16:52.

Sophomore Amy Jorgenson placed eighth with a time of 16:59, five seconds ahead of Fennimore's Alexa Nutter. Darlington freshman Harley Douglas took 12th in 17:13, just five seconds ahead of Fennimore sophomore Erika Trefz.

Darlington sophomore Hannah Robiolio grabbed 14th in 17:19, just two seconds better than Fennimore's Becky Goodman, who placed 16th, to give the edge to the Redbirds, ranked fifth in the latest state cross country poll.

The Darlington boys cross country team dominated at the SWAL Conference meet as the Redbirds placed four runners in the top five and five in the top ten and finished with 24 points, well ahead of second-place Boscobel (47) and third-place Southwestern/Cuba City (76).

Sophomore Kent Miehe finished second in 17:41, senior Jordan Heinberg was third in 17:50, sophomore Michael Sinclair placed fourth in 17:51, and junior Connor Roche came in fifth in 18:03.

Freshman Garth Garrison completed the scoring for Darlington by placing 10th with a time of 18:23.

Southwestern's Taylor Sullivan was the top runner, taking first place in 17:32.

The Redbirds finished 11th at last year's state meet and is ranked No. 2 in this week's state cross country poll.
