Redbirds sweep SWAL meet

MUSCODA - The Darlington boys and girls cross country teams knew what they wanted Thursday and they got it in the form of of a SWAL Conference cross country title.

In the boys race, the Redbirds placed seven runners in the top 10 to pull away from Boscobel. Sophomore Tyson Miehe topped all runners on the five kilometer course with a time of 16 minutes, 29 seconds. Darlington senior Destin Komprood followed in second place in 17 minutes and senior Michael Sinclair came in fourth (17:21), senior Brady McDaniel was fifth (17:33) and junior Garth Garrison closed out Darlington's scoring by coming in seventh in 17:45. Ken Miehe (eighth, 17:50) and Kyle Schulte (10th, 18:00) also passed the All-Conference barrier, finishing in the top 10.

The Redbirds closed out the race with 19 points, followed by Boscobel with 56 points, and Southwestern/Cuba City with 82 points.

The girls race featured Boscobel's Keely Foley, a freshman, covering the four kilometer trek in 15:35 to take first place, but the Redbirds placed runners in five of the next seven spots. Junior Christa Wamsley was second with a time of 16:02. Senior Hannah Robiolio was next in 16:17. Senior Amy Jorgenson took fifth in 16:35, junior Harley Douglas was seventh with a time of 16:50, and Cheyenne Wolfe (eighth, 16:59) and Johanna Meister (ninth, 17:18) also finished in the top 10.

The Redbirds finished with 25 points, Boscobel was second with 40 points and Southwestern/Cuba City was third with 106 points.

Darlington will be competing in the Division 3 sectional at Boscobel October 23 where both the boys and girls teams will be trying to win their fouth straight sectional title.
