LANCASTER - The Darlington-Cuba City girls golf team finished third at the WIAA Division 2 Lancaster regional and qualified as a team for the sectional.

The Redbirds shot a 382, which was just six strokes away from runner-up Edgerton. Madison Edgewood (315) won the regional title.

"We shot 26 strokes better than our average," Darlington-Cuba City coach Gary Ringen said of the 18 holes at the Lancaster Country Club on Wednesday. "We just did a heck of a job."

Darlington senior Shelby Poss shot a 90 to finish seventh to lead the Redbirds. Junior Naomi Black, who was a state qualifier last year, shot a 94 and took 11th. Nikki Zimmerman carded a 98 for 14th and Kayla Paquette had a 100 to tie for 16th. Sami Poss finished with a 109.

The Redbirds shot a 180 on the back nine.

"They played well on the back nine," Ringen said.

Darlington-Cuba City will play in the Wisconsin Dells sectional Tuesday, Oct. 4 at Trappers Turn.

"The girls have been playing just great," Ringen said. "They have been working hard."
