BARABOO - The Darlington High School girls basketball team's history-making season came to an end with a 64-40 loss to unbeaten La Crosse Aquinas on Saturday in a WIAA Division 4 sectional championship game.
Aquinas (26-0) led by just four points at the half, but the Blugolds outscored the Redbirds 33-13 in the second half.
Darlington sophomore Kathleen Mathias scored a team-high 11 points.
Darlington finished the season with an 18-8 record and won the program's first sectional game - a 52-48 victory over defending Division 4 state champion Mineral Point in a sectional semifinal.
Junior Madessa Collins scored a game-high 19 points to carry the Blugolds.
