DARLINGTON - The Darlington-Cuba City girls golf team shot a record-breaking 372 over 18 holes and finished second in the Darlington Invitational on Friday, Aug. 17.

The Redbirds were just six shots behind champion McFarland (366).

"I thought we could shoot the record," Darlington-Cuba City coach Gary Ringen said. "I think we have more potential to do even better. We will see them (McFarland) again in the regional."

The Redbirds had three golfers in the top 10. Darlington senior Naomi Black shot an 87 and finished third. Junior Sami Poss shot an 89 to take fifth and senior Kayla Paquette carded a 97 for 10th.

Black's round of 87 was the fourth-best all time and Poss' 89 was the sixth best all-time. Nikki Zimmerman finished with a 99 to round out the top four for the Redbirds.

"We had just a few eights and nines," Ringen said. "We struggled a little on the front nine. They came back and played really good on the back nine."

The Redbirds won a double dual in Lena on Thursday. Darlington knocked off Lena-Winslow 193-218 at Wolf Hollow and finished 45 shots better than Stillman Valley (243).

Black carded a 44 to lead the Redbirds. Nikki Zimmerman finished with a 48 and Paquette carded a 50. Poss rounded out the top four shooting a 52.
