DARLINGTON - The Darlington softball team slugged its way to a second straight win knocking off Fennimore 10-8 Thursday.
The Redbirds had a five-run second inning to break the game open. The Redbirds tacked on three runs in the fifth to take a 10-4 lead. Darlington (2-5) had 11 hits and five extra-base hits.
"It was definitely a slugfest tonight," Darlington coach Karen Bennett said. "Having all of those extra base hits worked in our favor."
Darlington's Taylor Cox went 3-for-4 with three doubles. Chloe Hinderman went 2-for-4 with a triple and Megan Wiegel also was 2-for-4.
Darlington's Tara Reichling pitched a complete game to get the win. She gave up six earned runs on 13 hits. She struck out two and didn't issue a walk.
"Tara pitched a good game," Bennett said. "It was nice to get the first win Tuesday and come back tonight and get another win is huge. The young ladies are starting to believe in themselves. I couldn't be more proud of them. They are working so hard that they deserve to have good things happen."
The Redbirds did commit four errors.
"We need to clean up some of our errors," Bennett said.
Whitewater 6, Brodhead 5
WHITEWATER - The Whippets scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to stun Brodhead 6-5 Thursday.
Brodhead (1-6, 1-5 Rock Valley South) scored two runs in the top of the seventh to take a 5-3 lead. Brodhead's Erin Kloepping went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Senior teammate Payton Wright was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Brodhead senior Brooke Boegli pitched 6 2/3 innings and gave up six runs - one earned on six hits. She struck out five and walked three.
Marshall 12, New Glarus 1
MARSHALL - Marshall put on a hitting show to beat New Glarus 12-1 Thursday.
New Glarus freshman Riley Parker went 2-for-2.
The Cardinals pounded out 14 hits en route to the victory. Marshall's Mikayla Bakken went 3-for-3 and Morgan Hendricks was 2-for-2. The Cardinals broke the game open with a five-run second inning to take a 6-0 lead. The Cardinals put the game away with a five-run fourth.
New Glarus sophomore pitcher Maya Kramer pitched four innings and gave up 11 earned runs on 14 hits. She struck out two and walked six.
Wis. Heights 6, Belleville 1
BELLEVILLE - Wisconsin Heights pounded out eight hits to beat Belleville 6-1 Thursday.
Belleville freshman Cassidy Heller went 2-for-3 and sophomore Ali Kowalski was 2-for-3 with one run scored. Kowalski doubled in the seventh inning. Heller came through with a single and Kowalski later scored on a passed ball. Belleville's Miranda O'Rourke went 1-for-3 with a double.
Heller pitched six innings for the Wildcats. She gave up four runs - two earned on seven hits. She struck out eight and walked one.
