Redbirds get past Cubans

CUBA CITY - Senior Callie Norton scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Darlington girls basketball team to a 67-44 win over Cuba City Thursday.

Darlington (9-5, 5-2 SWAL) led by just one point at the half. The Redbirds outscored the Cubans 45-23 in the second half.

Darlington sophomore Kathleen Mathias added 14 points and sophomore Kaylee Meyers had 12 points. Junior Kennedy Rankin chipped in nine points.

Darlington is tied with Cuba City for second in the league, two games behind league leader Mineral Point (9-3, 6-0 SWAL).



Argyle 48, Albany 37

ALBANY - Jena Saalsaa scored 18 points and Jadyn Saalsaa added 11 points to lead the Orioles over the Comets.

Jena Saalsaa had eight points in the first half to help Argyle build a 25-18 lead.

Libby Beck and Payton Zurfluh paced Albany with 15 and 10 points, respectively.



Barneveld 81, Pecatonica 20

BLANCHARDVILLE - Barneveld used a full-court press to run away with a Six Rivers Conference East win over Pecatonica.

Barneveld Teegan Pickarts hit six 3-pointers to finish with a game-high 18 points. The Eagles hit 14 3-pointers as a team.

Barneveld improves to 8-6, 4-1 Six Rivers East. Both Barneveld and Argyle (6-9, 4-1) trail conference leader Black Hawk by one game.

"The first three or four minutes were even," Pecatonica coach Bobby Rose said. "We had great effort from the tip to the final whistle. We cannot fault the effort. The full-court press got to us. Turnovers avalanched on us. We didn't handle the press well."

Pecatonica senior Jess Erickson scored a team-high 11 points.

"Kudos to them," Rose said. "When you hit 14 threes you win a lot of games."



New Glarus 54, Cambridge 46

NEW GLARUS - Junior Julia Barnaby scored a game-high 19 points and New Glarus defeated Cambridge for its first conference victory of the season.

Barnaby scored 15 of her points in the first half as New Glarus (7-7, 1-3 Capitol South) built a 12-point lead, 30-18.
