PLATTEVILLE - Darlington's Mariah Wiegel scored a game-high 24 points, but the Redbirds lost a SWAL battle to Southwestern 56-43 Saturday, Feb. 1 at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

"I think this is a breakout game for her," Darlington coach Kelly Rose said of Wiegel. I think if she can keep up the consistency, she can put up double figures every night."

Darlington (1-11, 0-7 SWAL) jumped out to a 13-11 lead in the first quarter. The Redbirds trailed by just three points at the half. Southwestern outscored the Redbirds 31-21 in the second half.

Rose likes the improvements the Redbirds have made and she wants to see them continue to develop.

"The girls worked really hard," Rose said. "They left everything out there on the court and that is all I can ask the team for. They are making progress. They (Southwestern) just made some high percentage shots."

Darlington will play a non-conference game at Lancaster tonight. The Redbirds will look to snap a six-game losing streak.
